Floodlit Result
27/06/07
Richard raced to a credible 5th place at TMMCC’s excellent Floodlit International meeting on Saturday night. After some very good racing in the qualifying heats Richard was joined in the A final by Paul Hurry, Glen Phillips, Martyn Sturgeon, Charlie Saunders, Steve Braidford, Lewis Denham (All UK) and young Dutch superstar Jannick de Jong. The first running saw de Jong take a heavy fall on the second lap that end his meeting but thankfully he was able to walk away from a nasty looking crash. Hurry jumped from the start in the re run and broke away from the field to take a commanding lead with Richard among the chasing pack. After the 3rd lap of the 6 lap final the finishing positions had pretty much been decided with Richard in 5th place.
Meeting result – 1st Paul Hurry 2nd Glen Phillips 3rd Martyn Sturgeon 4th Steve Braidford 5th Richard Smith 6th Charlie Saunders.

Early season ups and downs
10/05/07
After a good start to the season with a 2nd at Tallington and wins at High Easter and Ledbury Richard is now out of action for a few weeks with a broken wrist suffered in his second heat at the Berks Bonanza. After winning his first heat Richard had a high speed coming together with Charlie Saunders and was lucky to get away with a broken wrist and cuts and bruises. Richard is very thankful to team partner Forcefield for providing him with the best body armour available that prevented further injuries.A video of this crash can be seen on Youtube. Hopefully a visit to 'Magic Man' Brian Simpson will see Richard returning to action in Holland at the end of the month.
